Our Story:

Hi! We are Joseph and Monica Walter. First of all, thank you so much for coming to our website; we hope that you find something encouraging and helpful as you look through it. We wanted to share a bit about ourselves and how we aim to serve you. We met at Gateway Church in 2015, which is where we attend now. We have grown as a family since then with three children at home and two more that we will meet one day. We love being outdoors as a family. We’ve found ourselves hiking with babies strapped on our backs many times. When we had our daughter in 2016, we both felt drawn to help believers learn more about the Bible and Christian living.  We started praying and Joseph started writing, but nothing seemed to come of it. At the end of 2019, Joseph went on a much-needed sabbatical after one of the hardest years we’ve been through. On that sabbatical, Joseph felt inspired to write and to begin sharing with a renewed focus to help us all grow in our faith.  Whereas Joseph knew he was supposed to write the content, Monica wanted to make it easy for people to connect to that content.  So, Loving Theology was born.

We’d like to share about our goal, our topics, and our priorities so that you can get to know Loving Theology a little better:

Help believers to receive God’s love and walk in love toward others.

Themes to Our Topics

  1. Reconciling our hearts to the truth in the Bible.
    • When I read the Bible, my mind will quickly say “Amen”, but my heart often struggles to fully trust in its promises. I want to be honest about this struggle and work to reconcile the differences between where we are and where we are called to be.
  2. Removing the cultural filters that distort our perspective.
    • Have you ever put on those yellow glasses. At first, everything looks yellow, but over time your eyes adjust and you don’t notice. Similarly, we can get so used to our culture (even church culture) that we don’t notice how it influences the way we think. Some of our content will gently confront cultural biases in order to bind our conscience to God’s Word alone.
  3. Deepen our faith by strengthening our understanding of it.
    • Christian apologetics is the practice of defending our faith against objections. These objections don’t just come from outside the church but can also come from our own questions. Let’s strengthen our faith by understanding why we believe what we believe.

Our Priorities

  1. Convenient:
    • Our desire is to truly be helpful to you, our readers. Every time we produce content, we have you in mind. Each post is meant to be easy to understand and convenient to consume. It doesn’t help you if our content is too long or in a format that you don’t use. (Our podcast and YouTube channel are in the works!)
  2. Inspirational:
    • Our goal isn’t to simply communicate information, but to set the stage for you to be inspired by the truth in God’s Word. We hope that you don’t just learn something from the content but that it produces a heartfelt desire to love God and love others (see our first post).
  3. Honest:
    • We are on this journey together. Rather than pretend that I’ve arrived, allow me to be honest. What I actually do often differs from what the Bible exhorts me to do. How I actually feel rarely reflects the maturity I know is required of me. While it’s beneficial to discuss the standard we’re called to, let’s stand shoulder to shoulder as we do so, encouraging each other along the way.
